Dr. Akram Ismail of Leesburg, Florida, is well versed in the practice of gastroenterology and the treatment of internal diseases. He currently serves as President of Epic Teleradiology, a company that provides imaging services performed by American board-certified radiologists in the Middle East. A fluent speaker of English and Arabic, Dr. Akram Ismail travels to the Middle East to secure contracts with area institutions, including King Faisal Hospital and the Saudi Arabian Oil Co. Dr. Ismail is proud to have helped his organization earn accreditation from The Joint Commission.
Dr. Akram Ismail has performed thousands of endoscopies and introduced a new technique to his area called Bravo, a procedure in which he inserts a small device into the esophagus to measure the level of stomach acid reflux and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dr. Akram Ismail performs a host of procedures that help people experiencing swallowing disorders, and he also inserts feeding tubes through a minimally invasive procedure to help terminally ill patients receive nutrition. Dr. Ismail treats patients with chronic liver disease and works with various liver transplant teams to provide care for patients after their operations. He also performs esophageal retrograde cholangiopancreatographies (ERCPs), which eliminate the need for surgery in patients with gallstone obstructions in the biliary tract.
Before taking his position with Epic Teleradiology, Dr. Akram Ismail served in leadership roles at three different medical facilities: Professional Gastroenterology & Surgery Associates (PGSA), where he served as President; Lake Surgery & Endoscopy Center, where he served as Medical Director; and EndoSurg Outpatient Center, LLC, where he also served as Medical Director. At PGSA, Dr. Akram Ismail treated digestive diseases and managed the practice, which boasted 11 multispecialty providers.
In addition to his work as a physician, Dr. Akram Ismail has enjoyed several teaching positions. He has acted as Clinical Instructor at A. Zaher Teaching Hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia; Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt; and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Ismail belongs to a host of professional societies, which help him stay current in his field. He holds membership in the American Gastroenterological Association, the Florida Gastroenterologic Society, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the Florida Medical Association, where he sat on the board in 1997 and 1998.
